Wedding photo session in the rain sometimes can bring quite unexpected results. The wedding of Ksenia and Dima began in the pouring rain, which did not want to stop. Fortunately, the rain stopped when we arrived at the wedding venue.

During the wedding ceremony I used a flash, as the lighting during the ceremony was dim.

Wedding in the rain – what to expect

If your wedding is in a rain, then you have very little chance of getting good photos. And it is true. But not with a good wedding photographer.

If the rain is pouring, it goes without interruptions and stops – even photos under umbrella in the open area will not work. You’ll get wet, the camera will not be working flawlessly and if your photographer does not have a professional camera with moisture protection, then it may just stop working.

Situation is not so bad in the rain for the groom. But for the bride situation is more complicated. From heavy rain, not only the dress will get dirty, but also make-up and hair. Then you can forget about beautiful photos.

When it’s raining

The only way out in the case of heavy raining is taking pictures inside – in a room, in a photo studio or in another beautiful place with a roof over your head.

Another thing is if the rain is short-lived, or it goes on intermittently. In these breaks you need to go to the place with beautiful nature and quickly take photos.

A beautiful place for a photoshoot in the rain in Kyiv is the Hryshko National Botanical Garden. You can find there beautiful nature and summerhouses where you can hide during breaks in the rain.

Strangely enough, in this wedding day thanks to the rain the botanical garden was empty and no one interfered with the wedding photoshoot. But we had to run and get a little wet.

Of course, you as a model will get wet in the rain, your photographer and his camera with lenses will get wet too. But if photographer is a professional, you will get good wedding photos.

The fact is that cloudy weather brings good light for photographs, especially for a wedding photoshoot. But this light must be properly used.

An important role in this will be the ability of your photographer to see the light and to quickly choose a location for photo.
